Meditation CDs
Roy Masters, creator of the "Be Still and Know" meditation technique, believes that there are two primary reasons why we persist in the errors in our lives. The first is that our egos refuse to see them as errors, and the second is that we are emotionally attached to those errors. Both of these situations can be corrected when we allow our conscious minds to be still.
The conscious mind is constantly active, constantly thinking about the past and the future, constantly reacting to external stimuli. Our egos lead us to believe that we can control and arrange things if we just try hard enough. How many of us have wasted time and mental energy having hypothetical conversations with other people, either planning what we will say or revising what we did say? It's hard to imagine a more useless exercise, yet our egos insist upon doing it, to gratify our self-image.
Once we have made an error, such as holding a grudge, we attach emotions to it. Letting go of that grudge might feel like injustice, or weakness, or victimization. Once again, however, this belief is simply a construct of our minds. In reality, letting go of that grudge will bring you peace.
The "Be Still and Know" meditation helps you separate your ego and your emotions from reality so that you can see it clearly. This guided meditation is available on CD from the website of the Foundation of Human Understanding. Once your eyes are opened to what can be achieved with patience and objectivity, your life will never be the same.
