Free Anger Management Classes
From time to time, anger management classes may be offered at the Foundation of Human Understanding in Oregon. These classes will be based on the "Be Still and Know" meditation technique developed by Roy Masters, author of 16 books and host of the country's longest running radio advice show. To be sure that you don't miss this opportunity, subscribe to the free FHU E-Letter.
In the meantime, there are several ways you can begin learning how to manage your anger. The most important step is to begin practicing the "Be Still and Know" meditation technique. You can download this guided meditation for free from the FHU website. You can also download a free printed version of the exercise from either How Your Mind Can Keep You Well or How to Conquer Negative Emotions.
Many people mistakenly think that anger is a powerful emotion. It is not. It is enslavement, a reaction to past conditioning, and serves only to weaken those who succumb to it. The guided meditation "Be Still and Know" teaches you to observe your anger, not deny or repress it. Once you see that it is a conditioned response to external stimuli (often not even stimuli in the present, but from the past), you will be able to detach your emotion from the event.
This is true power: to confront injustice with patience, cruelty with understanding, rage with calm. This objectivity will free you from conditioned responses and allow you to make decisions from your true identity. Not only will you find the grace to have patience with others, you will also discover more compassion for yourself.
