Christian Meditation
The "Be Still and Know" meditation exercise developed by Roy Masters nearly 50 years ago is based on fundamental Christian values. Today, he is the author of 16 books, host of the longest running radio show in America, and head of the Foundation of Human Understanding. It seems that in these times, more and more people are turning back to basic values.
The Bible says that of faith, hope and charity, "the greatest of these is charity." Here, charity is not used in the modern sense of the word, as in giving to those less fortunate. In this context, it means love, compassion, patience and the willingness to forgive.
These are the cornerstones of the "Be Still and Know" meditation. Masters believes that all sorts of maladies and unhappiness can be cured if we can only learn to be patient and compassionate with one another and with ourselves. His meditation exercise teaches you how to stop responding to outside stimuli with negative emotions. Through daily practice, you will be able to gain patience and objectivity, to understand and overlook the flaws in others as well as your own errors.
The serenity, grace and inner peace that result from such patience can change your life. Masters' guided meditation is available on the FHU website. You can purchase an audiotape or CD version, or download it at no cost. Printed versions are available in Masters' books How Your Mind Can Keep You Well and How To Conquer Negative Emotions. These books can also be purchased or downloaded.
