Benefits Of Meditation
The benefits of meditation are many and varied, and touch on several different aspects of life. The physical benefits are easiest to observe and quantify, but meditation also affects us mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Roy Masters, head of the Foundation of Human Understanding, has developed a method of Christian meditation called "Be Still and Know," which can help you accrue all those benefits.
Meditation is the first form of alternative treatment for physical problems to have been recognized by mainstream Western physicians. Meditation can boost your immune system, improve airflow for asthmatics, help manage chronic pain, lower cholesterol levels and speed healing. Many of these result from a decrease in stress and anxiety, which is one of the primary results of meditation.
In addition to reduced stress and anxiety, the psychological benefits of meditation include increased self-esteem, better power of concentration, reduced irritability and reduced depression. There is also evidence that meditation may help increase creativity and even intelligence.
All of these benefits can be realized by using Roy Masters' "Be Still and Know" meditation technique. However, the primary focus of "Be Still and Know" is your spiritual health. The goal is to give you the mental clarity to forgive your errors and those of others and allow you to walk in grace. You can download a guided meditation at the Foundation of Human Understanding website, where you can also order video and audio tapes, CDs, MP3s and any of Masters' 16 books, including How Your Mind Can Keep You Well.
